Every once in a while, you see something so extraordinary, it takes your breath away…
I was standing on a steep beach in the early morning light in my hometown of Carlsbad, California, watching giant waves roll to shore on the first day of a new winter’s swell.
On this morning, as the tide was shifting, the oncoming wave breaking to shore was met with an outgoing surge of backwash.
What I saw was truly captivating!
Two waves colliding, reaching towards the sky, growing in size as their power combined and the wave divided.
One wave carrying on towards shore…
… the other reaching back to the place from which it came.
The movement reminded me of the beauty and elegance of a ballet dancer in a double pirouette, gracefully reaching and turning.
Flight was captured at the same time as Pirouette.
What I love about Flight is the slightly angled direction of the horizontal lines leading up to the double wave…
… the piece de resistance.
The bird captured in mid flight, enjoying the display of power and beauty (as I was) while it skimmed along the sea mist from the breaking waves.
I love the energy and optimism of these two new releases — a hopeful indicator of good things yet to come.
PS – I want to thank all of you for your kind words about Pirouette on my Facebook page. This original post received over 2,600 shares and had a reach of 162,000+ I am truly humbled and grateful for having such an amazing community of supporters and fans.
