Isn’t it fascinating how our environment has the power to affect everything from our physical and mental state to our ability to heal? I’m in awe of the complexity of how we are designed and how we are truly wired to seek beauty.
Today I wanted to share a video about the healing power of nature-based art. I’ve developed a new passion for learning about the kinds of imagery that heal during times of crisis.
What do I mean by this? Scientific studies have shown that certain types of art have the power to relieve pain, expedite healing times and lower blood pressure.
Lately, I’ve been working closely with Sharp hospital to create a customized collection of photographic art for their new facilities around San Diego that celebrate the areas and locations of the hospitals and medical centers. This creates a level of comfort for the patients and staff, especially during a time of crisis. The collection is designed so the patient can focus on something that’s familiar, beautifully captured and can transport them to a happy place.
The elements that are considered universally beautiful art are recognizable landscape photos, grasses, trees, sky – and when the element of water is introduced, the desirability of the image skyrockets!
